Ketju pystyyn Javier Pastorelle, joka on tällä kaudella ollut ehkä koko Ligue 1:n paras pelaaja. Ensimmäinen osa Pariisin palapeliä, josta kasvanut tärkeä osa joukkuetta ja nimi tulee nousemaan useammankin huulille jälleen ensi kaudella. Tässä 1970 PSG:n julkaisema artikkeli, jossa Pastore valittiin PSG:n kauden pelaajaksi. Hieman katsausta menneeseen ja tähän kauteen. En tosiaan itse pahastuisi, vaikka Flaco voittaisi tuon UNFP:nkin myöntämän palkinnon.

The Renaissance Of Javier Pastore

1970 PSG

Just like last year, Paris Saint-Germain have three nomination for the player of the season. The UNFP revealed last week that current holder Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be up for the award alongside Marco Verratti, Javier Pastore and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
Although the Ibra nomination has raised a few eyebrows in a season where he has been plagued by injury, the three other nominations all have a worthy case. No surprise that my 1970 PSG Player of the Season is one of the three Parisians nominated but realistically it was just down to two. Two players who have become quite simply two of the most integral members to this Paris Saint-Germain team; Marco Verratti and Javier Pastore. But the latter just edges it for me as PSG’s Player of the Season.
Literally I could have made a decision based on the toss of a coin for this one. The two of them have been absolutely outstanding. Verratti is quite possibly the best midfielder in the whole of France right now – he has been that good! He has come on leaps and bounds, proving to be indispensable to Laurent Blanc. The form since the turn of the year has been exemplary, racking up more assists and finally netting his first few goals for the football club. Who will forget that header against Barcelona last September?
As quoted by Le Parisien yesterday, former Lyon player Eric Carriere said that Lacazette would be a worthy winner due to the amount of goals he scored. Yet, he also admitted that if Verratti was to pick up the gong he would applaud that decision too. The Italian has already been labelled as the ‘best player’ in his homeland and unfortunately for us he is continuously linked with Barcelona. The interest is there for a reason from the Catalans.

So why does Pastore just pip it for me? His renaissance has been nothing short of staggering. This was a player whose career was petering out in Paris. Just over a year ago he had no direction, seemingly no place in the team, on the bench more often than not and labelled a big money flop. That form in the first two to three months of his PSG career in 2011 was a distant memory. We thought we would never see it again. The FFP repercussions also cascaded huge doubts over his future with the club looking to move players on. It looked as if he would be out the door last summer.
There was a turning point though. And I always look to that goal he scored against Chelsea in the 3-1 quarter-final win in the Champions League last season. That mazey run, along with some pretty sloppy defending and goalkeeping, resulted in Flaco sending the Parc des Princes into pandemonium as he gave us a two goal cushion heading into the second-leg. We come up short in West London of course but that triggered something in Pastore.
His pre-season was very good. The Argentine went about his business quietly. He looked as sharp as he had done for a long time. The confidence was back and perhaps having a full pre-season to fully focus on his game after missing out on the World Cup did him the world of good. This was all in the midst of his agent incessantly reiterating the player’s desire was to remain at the Parc.
He scored a cracking goal in a pre-season friendly in Naples against Napoli last August. He went on a jinking run before  producing a smashing finish to give us a 2-1 victory. It was a snippet like that which we would be more accustomed to see as the season progressed.
Whether he was playing on the left-hand of the attacking trio, or just in the middle, he excelled. When playing out wide he would come inside to influence the play. Or if he was in central midfield he would gladly come forward with the ball to make things happen. Gradually, with each game he played, the confidence was getting better and better. Flaco is a man who thrives on that. If he is happy in himself, then the team reaps the benefits. The coach Laurent Blanc must be given credit for this as he showed real faith in him. Carlo Ancelotti, a man who did so many great things during his tenure, was unable to get the best out of the player.

The difference in statistics from last season to this shows just how much he has come on.
Ligue 1: 2013/14
- Goals: 1
- Chances created: 29
- Key passes: 26
- Assists: 3
- Successful passes: 1,143
Ligue 1: 2014/15
- Goals: 5
- Chances created: 50
- Key passes: 38
- Assists: 12
- Successful passes: 1,694
One telling statistic is that in 13/14, he completed just eight games in the league. He has more than doubled that time around to 19. He has gone from primarily a substitute to one of the pivotal members of this team.
Blanc utilising him in that so-called ‘number 10’ role behind the two strikers is where we are really seeing him at his best. There is a real similarity to Kaká at his peak within that role. He has the vision and awareness to create openings in the final third. His ball control allows him to orchestrate attacks on the break and he is no the quickest by any means but he can set the tone for an attack. Literally, everything goes through JP in an attacking sense. His value cannot be understated. He along with Lucas Moura – when he was fully fit – has been our best attacking outlets.
The club need to tie him down to a new contract at the end of the season. His future has still been questioned because of this as he has yet to put pen to paper as his current deal runs out next summer. President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi said last month he wants the player to stay and I am sure a compromise will be reached soon.
Pastore’s renaissance though is stunning. He has not only come back from the brink but is one of the first names on Laurent Blanc’s team sheet. And for that, he is the 1970 PSG Player of the Season for 2014/15.

Javier Pastore on sivussa Coupe de Francen finaalista.

Mahtava asia.

How El Flaco went from forgotten to unforgettable
A year ago, Javier Pastore was a forgotten player.
The Argentine was a nonexistent part of Laurent Blanc’s preferred 4-3-3 formation, and the winter arrival of Yohan Cabaye into a midfield already packed with talent seemed to spell the end of El Flaco‘s time with Paris Saint-Germain.
And yet, a year after the worst season of his career, Pastore has almost inexplicably turned things around. After going three-years without an international cap (2011-2014), Pastore has now started every game for Argentina at the Copa America and is thriving as the team’s central playmaker. Where previously Lionel Messi found the creative burden on his shoulders, Pastore has slotted in beautifully, making Argentina finally capable of exploiting the space created by the Barcelona maestro.

First unearthed as an international talent by Diego Maradona and then frozen out of the team by former Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella, Pastore’s present international success is a first for him, but it comes as expected after a coming-of-age at club level.
PSG are coming off an unprecedented domestic quadruple, the most successful season in French history, and much of that is thanks to El Flaco’s creativity in midfield. Sitting just behind Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi in the goalscorer list and comfortably atop the assist charts, Pastore has secured his place in PSG’s first team.
Whether deployed in midfield or on the wing, Pastore drifts just behind the attackers into his natural #10 position and picks out passes. Recording two assists on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season, the team’s confidence in Pastore grew as the season progressed. His creativity in the midfield was a godsend in league play, particularly against physical teams, where he was frequently sought out as the main option. His defense-splitting assists solved many of his team’s problems breaking down compact defenses.
And it has not gone unnoticed. Shortlisted for Player of the Season, in the Ligue 1 best XI, and now plying his trade under Argentina manager Tata Martino at the Copa America, Pastore’s full career 360 has earned him a pay raise, a contract extension, and the admiration of the Parc. He’s a joy to watch, and as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time comes to an end, Qatar Sports Investments’ first star has the opportunity to become a legend for the club.
Toivottavasti tuo viimeinen lause tulisi toteen.

Pastore on pelannut tähän mennessä loistavan Copa Américan.

Despite his recent form, the Argentine may have to settle for a substitute role
Last season, Javier Pastore had one of the highest number of appearances among the Paris Saint-Germain players last season. This year though, he may have to settle for a substitute role thanks to new additions to the club and his time off due to international duty.
Throughout last season, Pastore featured prominently in Laurent Blanc’s starting lineup as the long season took its toll on a number of players and kept them on the sidelines. His versatility in the midfield made Pastore an attractive option for Blanc and his performances warranted the playing time.
“For me, the best player in the world is Javier Pastore.”

With Pastore missing out on most of the preseason due to his Copa América responsibilities with Argentina, El Flaco will find it difficult to break into the starting lineup this year especially with new arrivals coming in this summer. Blanc will have a tough job of keeping the resurgent Argentine happy with Ibrahimovic appearing to be the major contender for his favored No.10 spot where he excelled tremendously last season.
French football journalist Jonathan Johnson confirmed the possible formation change earlier this week: "We believe Zlatan Ibrahimovic will play deeper role, allowing Edinson Cavani to play in middle. It happened several times at end of last term."
Blanc may opt for a formation that looks like a 4-3-1-2 on paper.
With Thiago Motta’s situation far from being resolved, Pastore will be a really valuable asset to have on the bench as the versatile attacking midfielder can play in a variety of positions, including midfield and from the flanks if needed. He’ll give Blanc a lifeline when he needs to change the starting lineup or coming off the bench to give the team added creativity. In fact, if the injury situation that plagued Paris last season is anything to go by, supporters will get to see plenty of the enigmatic Argentine next season.
It’s disappointing Pastore won’t be guaranteed a spot in the starting XI this season but with a Ibrahimovic’s pending exit next summer, Pastore’s future looks bright at Paris if he can continue his excellent form from last season and the Copa América.

Javier Pastore agrees to stay at PSG after reps meet with Al-Khelaïfi

Get French Football News can reveal that PSG attacking midfielder Javier Pastore has agreed to remain with Les Parisiens after club officials, including Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, met with the player’s representatives.

The player’s representatives held a meeting with PSG on Saturday, before attending Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s final league match for the club at the Parc des Princes, PSG vs Nantes.

Chelsea and Juventus had been among the sides interested in the attacking midfielder.
