Dino Dini's Kick Off Revival (2016)

Recommended Posts

Announcement Date: October 18, 2016

The current task being worked on is to improve the performance of the goal-keepers.  How this will manifest itself is unknown at the moment but a significant boost in keeper performance is anticipated.

The update is expected to be included in the Vita release as well as a patch for the PS4 release at the same time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Announcement Date: October 26, 2016

Kick Off Revival for the Vita has now been in testing for a week or so and is thought to be performing well.

Release timings and strategies are being discussed with The Digital Lounge to try and ensure a successful release.

Current development is targeting game logic to improve the experience.  Goalkeepers are the current area of focus as a number of animations are not used and there are unwanted vulnerabilities in their logic.

Whether the next patch and Vita release at the same time is still under consideration

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Announcement Date: November 3, 2016

The latest news for the Vita release is a successful test of the netplay system.  This is a significant step forward and edges the game one step closer to release.

News on a release schedule is expected within the next few days.

Improvements on gameplay are continuing too with goalkeepers still being tweaked as potential weaknesses are identified.

Player selection is under scrutiny along with the keepers as this can be frustrating at times.

Topspin cross has had it’s effectiveness reduced by disabling the automatic receive pass assist (arpa) when a ball is played at high speed.  The move is still possible but should take much more skill to result in a goal.

Long kicks from the keeper have been identified as a control descrepancy which has now been resolved.

Dribbling in to the box with quick changes of direction has been weakend by introducing a ‘fatigue’ feature.  As x is pressed to change direction multiple times in quick succession, your player will fatigue.  This results in the player slowing down so he can be approaced by defending players.

All of these are as a result of fan feedback – please continue posting in the forums and we’ll feed back to Dino!  As always, all suggestions/frustrations are subject to Dino’s final decision, the game design will not be compromised.

Keep checkng back for an update on the Vita release date

Dino Dini
We are hoping to submit to Sony by mid week. Thank you for your patience. #kickoffrevival #vita

Dino Dini
Gameplay improvements have been underway - last few days working on the 'joysticker' with @radugauk testing. Just had a very good play test.

Dino Dini
We are hoping to add some teams and formations along with exploit mitigation and improved keeper and joysticker behaviour in a new PS4 patch

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joku kysäs  what about Word cup qualifiers for a next patch ?

keychain.jpg

Muutoinkin aika messevän näköisiä palkintoja tuo Kormunity antaa erinäisten turnausten voittajille, suht hienoja voitto”pokaaleja”, tai vaikkapa siistejä kiviä laattapainatuksineen, kehtais kyllä osan niistä kevyesti pistellä näkyvälle paikallekin näytille !

Announcement Date: November 6, 2016

Firstly, Vita release is expected to enter external testing w/c 7th November. If this is successful then the game could be submitted to Sony later the same week.  The initial release will have netplay, but not cross-play with PS4.  The team are confident this is possible and will come in a future update, after release.

Gampeplay refinement continues with the goalkeeper and player selection (joysticker) under the most scrutiny.

Goalkeepers are now performing consistently, with a more detailed decision tree and several bugs removed.  The Joysticker has been re-worked to try and reduce the frustrations experienced during matches; switching when trying to position players, not switching quickly enough for high speed opponent play.  While only a limited number of matches have been played with the new configuration, initial results were positive. Frustration points were few and the moments identified as potential issues with the selection were shown to be user input swaying the decision. While the new joysticker does look to be an improvement, nothing can test like having the changes out for public use.  It will take a few games for players to adjust to the new joysticker, but it does feel more fluid, allowing for a faster, tighter game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Announcement Date: November 10, 2016

The Vita release was sent for external testing and received feedback, which has now been resolved.  Further external testing is required before submission to Sony can take place.  The game will be sent for testing again today.

To clarify, the Vita release will not be cross-play with PS4 at release but this is expected with a later update.

Work has also started on a new PS4 patch; gameplay tweaks are being made, improved goalkeepers, goal kick power exploit resolved, shielding the ball has had it’s effectiveness reduced.

Major work has started on a tactic editor too.  This is in the early stages at the moment and we do not know if it will make it in to the next patch, yet.

Announcement Date: November 16, 2016

External testing found a few issues with Netplay on the Vita version of Kick Off Revival.  These are partly related to a bug within the version of Unity used for the game and this will need to be upgraded to fix the issue for the Vita. This is scheduled to be performed over the next day or so and then the game re-submitted.  The release is close and should be available by the end of the month at the latest.

A reminder, the Vita release will be cross-buy, if you own the PS4 release, you are entitled to the Vita version.  Cross-play (Netplay between PS4-Vita) will not be in the game at release but is expected to be patched in at a later date.

Work on the next patch for the PS4 has also been progressing well.  Currently the next patch will contain new European Nations, N/S America teams, 4 new formations (balanced, falcon, blitz and lockout), enhanced goalkeeper, modified player selection logic (joysticker), a new header technique as well as other bug fixes/tweaks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Announcement Date: December 2, 2016

The PSVita build is now running at a steady 60fps throughout and the intermittent crash that was plaguing the game has been resolved.  Both the performance and crash issues were related to the version Unity being used.  A new version was released in the last few days which resolved the problems.

Due to the delay in getting the PSVita version running to a satisfactory and reliable standard, the release schedule is now under discussion.  The initial plan was to release the Vita version as soon as possible and synchronise patch levels with PS4 over updates.  As the delays have moved the release schedule back, this strategy is now being re-considered as significant updates are ready for the PS4 – further widening the gap between the two releases.

Widening the gap will only make synchronising the two releases more difficult over time, prolonging the wait for cross-play between PS4/PSVita.

Announcement Date: December 13, 2016

As mentioned in our previous post, it has been decided to delay the PS Vita release until the game can be brought inline with the upcoming PS4 patch and have both released at the same time.  The PS Vita version with this patch in place is now in testing and hopeful of submission in the next few days.

This means that both the PS4 and PS Vita will be running the same version of the game.  CrossPlay is not expected to make it in to the initial release, if a pre-Christmas release is possible.  The fact that the games will be running the same version does mean that implementation of CrossPlay via patch at a later date should be more likely.

The Patch also includes around 30 new nations to select from as well as new formations to use during the game.

So, hopefully submission can start this week with a target of releasing before Christmas.

Announcement Date: December 19, 2016
Unfortunately the PSVita/PS4 patch will not be released before the Christmas target.

Last minute issues with PSN sign in procedures that had not been apparent previously have meant that, although resolved, the deadline for submission to make a pre-Christmas release has now been missed.

Dino and the team offer their apologies to everyone that has been waiting and thank you all for your patience and support.

The new targeted release is in the first week or two of January when Sony re-open.

Dear customers, fans, prospective customers and non-fans,

When the game was released it was a big moment for me, coming at the end of 6 months of continuous crunching to get the first version of the game to ship and this being my first real attempt at an indie dev come back in over 20 years. As you may know, there was a lot of unpleasantness which I found rather difficult. Something of a body blow, which really did not help me focus on the work that I still needed to do. As a result of this, and to minimize the impact on the patches and the Vita development, I decided to reduce my online presence to just Twitter and Twitch. To those not aware, I have been streaming development of the game since the beginning of April, allowing those interested to follow progress of the game even on a daily basis. I stream every evening, although will be taking a break over Christmas.

Thus, although I have not been using Facebook for the past months myself directly, I have still been keeping interested customers up to date.

Enough time elapsed now that I feel better about the whole thing, and feel I can start to also interact on Facebook again.

When you put your heart and soul into something, it does not mean the world will like it. However, there are a lot of people who do enjoy KOR and a few who are extremely passionate about it. I have faith in my game, and I thank those supporters who have also shown faith.

The VITA port took a lot longer than expected. Those following me on Twitch know why. It is not physically possible for me to work any harder. But I am still trying to keep the customer satisfied. I may not be able to please all customers, but every customer gets the same complete commitment from me.

Soon the Vita version will be released, as well as a patch with some additional content for PS4. The Vita and PS4 versions should be essentially identical. They will be Cross Buy. Cross Play is still an unknown quantity, but we hope to achieve it at some point in the future.

I hope that you will enjoy the new versions, and ask you to be patient as we continue to develop and enhance the game incorporating your feedback, which was always the plan from the beginning.

However, if you do find problems with the game, please remember that I am available to help you personally. Just drop by my Twitch stream any evening. There is also the Kormunity, a friendly community of players who can help you with the game.

There are many things I want to improve, and now that the Vita version is out of the way, I am hoping I can address these. But please bear in mind the development team is currently just myself and Florian. Florian works a 40 hour week (it's a normal job for him) while I am working as non stop as I can. Game development is unpredictable, and we hit some issues that have caused delay, but we are doing all we can to bring you new content and updates as soon as we can.

As for any who feel the need to send anger, extreme disappointment or even abuse my way, I ask you to stop and consider what it is that you want and how I can help you. I really do want to please everyone I can, but I cannot help you if you just tell me I've done a bad job, or that the game just sucks, or that you are looking forward to the release of some other game. If you can give me constructive feedback, then I can help.. If not right away, then eventually as we refine the product.

Constructive feedback is feedback that helps me to improve your experience. Telling me I suck, or that I should give up, or that you think you will never enjoy the game.. these things are not constructive because I cannot use them to improve your or anyone else's experience.

Despite all efforts, I know that there will always be unsatisfied customers. This is the reality of game development. I care about these customers too, because I really do want to understand why they do not enjoy the game. I know that it can appear to some as though I have personally failed them should they not get along with my game, but please understand that when I make a game, I make one game that is sampled by thousands of players. It is not personal when I fail to satisfy you due to design choices I have made, and I would appreciate that feedback is treated in a similarly non-personal way. Disappointment is always a tricky thing, but it can be dealt with constructively.

As for the future, we have lots of exciting things planned. The bigger picture is to move on to the game I have been waiting to remake for 26 years... a new Player Manger style game. I hope I get to do that.

I'll be back on Twitch (handle is dndn1011) this evening, if you want to discuss any of this with me and members of the Kormunity.

Kind regards to all,

Dino

Jonkisen verran ollut juttua noista tuomareista, meikäläinen tykkää että niissä on ”hirmuisia eroja”… toiset antaa punaista melkein kaikista taklauksista ja toiset eivät yhtään mistään jne… kivasti variaatioita ja jokainen on oma "persoonallisuutensa".

********* : Dino it has been brought up before could the blind referees not at least punish tackles from behind at certain rate to not give the possibility to completely trash pass play with certain referees?

*********  I like the different ways people play, some all pretty passing, some fast n furious, some wild n sliidey, that's wat makes the game

-----------------------------------------------
